I wanted to cure my pain, so
I took the path of most comfort.
One that offered the least suffering, I thought.
The path offered numbing and distracting,
Poured all of my thoughts in the business,
Forgot the pain by starvation of attention.
But like a dose of chemo,
It’s impossible to eliminate one feeling
Without suppressing all the rest equally.
Existence becomes emotionless,
Nothing of matter or significance remains,
And indifference becomes the new norm.
To cure pain is to feel the pain.
To let it move through,
As slowly and painfully as needed.
Because following such great disturbance and grief,
Is renewal, wisdom, and the most spectacular sunrise.
